Current employees in the unclassified service who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam: Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service; Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing or by the last day of filing.

Verification of Experience : Experience gained in a position performing similar kinds of work which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the higher level positions will be accepted. Experience claimed will be verified and evaluated to determine if the type, level or length of experience is qualifying. Applicants must supply sufficient information for this evaluation to be made. Applicants claiming such experience in County service must present, AT TIME OF FILING, written proof of this experience in a Verification of Experience Letter approved by their Division Head and submitted with the application. The Verification of Experience Letter will then be forwarded by Exams Unit to the Chief of Human Resources Division, Public Works or authorized representative for approval. Credit will only be given for out-of-class experience to meet the selection requirements only.

Essential Job Functions
An Assistant Electro-Mechanic (Sewer Maintenance) is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job functions: performs regular inspection and general maintenance and repairs of sewage pumping stations and treatment plants; installs and performs field and shop maintenance and major repair work on sewage pump stations and treatment plant equipment such as pumps, motors, air compressors, ventilation blowers, aeration systems, comminutors, centrifuges, filters, irrigation systems and UV and chemical disinfection systems; tests, repairs and rewires power, light and control circuits in sewage pumping stations and treatment plants; installs, repairs, and programs electronic equipment used in monitoring systems, telemetry alarm systems and in various pump and equipment control systems; operates power equipment used in the removal or installation of submersible and non-submersible pumps, motors and equipment utilized at sewage pump stations and treatment plants; uses instruments such as ammeters, volt-ohmmeters, and megohmmeters in testing and servicing equipment; forces conduit, pulls cable and makes splices and other electrical connections; installs, repairs and maintains various valves, fittings and piping systems; operates generators, portable pumps, concrete coring machines, roto-hammers, cut-off saws and other power equipment in the repair and renovation of sewage pump stations and treatment plants; delivers and connects portable electrical generators and pumps in emergencies; performs minor maintenance work on gasoline and diesel engines used to drive generators and portable pumps; keeps work and supply records; maintains tools and equipment; drives automotive equipment to work sites which mayinclude vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or more or combination truck units with trailers of 6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight or over; and may work in small, dimly lit and wet confined spaces, and perform confined space entry procedures utilizing safety equipment such as self-contained breathing devices, safety harnesses with tripod, gas detectors, and ventilation blowers.

Requirements

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
Twelve months of full time paid experience at the level of Helper, Electrical with the Sewer Maintenance Division of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works* -AND- A California Water Environment Association (CWEA)Plant Maintenance Grade I certificate within 12 months of appointment, -AND- Completion of 15 semester course units related to electric motors, wiring and controls within 24 months of appointment, -AND- Within 36 months of appointment: Completion of a total of 24 semester course units of which three units must have been on the National Electrical Code, with the remainder related to subject matter applicable to the Assistant Electro-Mechanic position, -AND- CWEA Certification at the level Plant Maintenance Mechanical Technologist, Grade II, -OR- CWEA Certification at the level of Plant Maintenance Electrical/Instrumentation, Grade II.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

A valid California Class A or B Driver License may be required for appointment to some positions in this class.

A Water Treatment Operator Grade T2 Certificate and a Water System Distribution Operator Grade D1Certificate issued by the California Department of Health Services may be required for appointment to some positions in this class that work on potable water systems.

LICENSE INFORMATION
All successful applicants for this positionwill be subject todriving record verification before being appointed. Driver License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked. AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS FOUR (4)OR MORE MOVING VIOLATION WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.

Appointees may be required to provide automobiles and drive them in the County service at the rate of compensation allowed by the Board of Supervisors. Appointees who are required to drive their vehicles in County service MUST SHOW PROOF OF AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE THAT MEETS THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA REQUIREMENTS.

The County is required to comply with the Federal regulations which require pre-employment, post accident, reasonable suspicion, return to work, follow up, and random urine drug and breath alcohol testing of employees who carry commercial driver licenses and who are assigned to drive County vehicles.

Additional Information
EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based on application information weighted 50% and an Appraisal of Promotability weighted 50%. The Appraisal of Promotability will evaluate knowledge and skills, personal and public relations, productivity, written and oral communication, adaptability and dependability.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligibleregister in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

Final results will be sent by U.S. postal mail. Test scores cannot be disclosed over the phone.

SPECIAL INFORMATION
FINGERPRINTING AND SECURITY CLEARANCE: Before a final appointment is made to this position, candidates are subject to security clearance which includes fingerprinting.
