Water Quality Engineer (Engineering Associate II, III or Civil Engineer)
The Sanitation Districts are a non-civil service public agency with over 1,700 employees, including over 200 engineers. We are nationally recognized for innovative engineering practices and leadership in designing, constructing and operating state-of-the-art systems for solid waste and wastewater management. Recent changes to the Sanitation Districts authority allow the Districts to also assist municipalities in Los Angeles County with stormwater management projects.
Our Joint Administration Office in Whittier is conveniently located near the 60/605 freeway interchange, 15 miles from downtown L.A. *Initial salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications. A candidate hired at a level higher than Associate Engineer must be a registered Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California.
WATER QUALITYSECTION - JOINT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE (WHITTIER, CA)
The Water Quality Section offers the opportunity to work on critical projects related to surface and groundwater quality protection, stormwater management, and regulatory compliance. This position requires knowledge in the standards and regulations associated with storm water discharges from industrial facilities, construction sites, and municipal systems; planning, design and construction of stormwater management projects; and facility stormwater assessments and recommendations. Projects may include the preparation of complex technical reports, design specifications and project drawings, and letters required by regulatory agencies. The work also involves interacting with outside agencies, consulting firms, the public, and other Districts' sections and departments, and encourages the incumbent to develop project management and team building skills.
The most qualified applicants will have superior technical writing and communication skills, analytical skills, project management skills, experience preparing hydrologic calculations or drainage reports, and experience with the design, construction, or operation of stormwater BMPs, gravity collection systems, and/or pump stations.
Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver license -AND- Option A : A bachelor's degree and master's degree both in a pertinent engineering discipline from an accredited and recognized college or university; Option B: A bachelor's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a related science with an Engineer-In-training Certificate and a master's degree from an accredited and recognized college or university in a pertinent engineering discipline; Option C : Two years of professional engineering experience subsequent to earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited and recognized college or university.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's and master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with previous experience in the design of gravity collection systems and/or pump stations (sanitary sewer or stormwater) and construction management. Certification as a Construction General Permit Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD), Construction General Permit Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP), Industrial General Permit Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP), or Industrial General Permit Trainer of Record (ToR) is desirable.
