Current employees in the unclassified service who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam:

Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service.

Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing.

NO OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE OR VERIFICATION OF EXPERIENCE LETTERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

NO WITHHOLDS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR THIS EXAMINATION.


APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AT THE TIME OF FILING.

DEFINITION:
Heads a plumbing section comprised of eight to thirty journey-level and sub-journey-level positions; or is first assistant to a higher-level plumber supervisor in charge of a plumbing section.
Essential Job Functions
Plans, assigns, supervises and inspects the work of plumbers, apprentices and helpers in plumbing installation, alteration and repair work.

Advises superiors concerning specifications for plumbing work in construction and alteration projects performed under contract.

Supervises the maintenance of work records.

Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.

Determines work methods and types of materials to be used.

Makes periodic inspections of existing plumbing equipment and systems.

Ensures that plumbing code requirements, safety regulations and safe work practices are observed.

Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.

Coordinates work activities with other crafts and operating units.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites as needed.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Three (3)years of journey-level* experience in plumbing installation, alteration and repair work.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

CERTIFICATIONS :
**Los Angeles County and City Certificates of Registration as a Journey Plumber.

PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate :
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

  • Any additional experience in excess of the minimum requirements.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:

Part I: An evaluation of experience and desirable qualificationsbased upon application information andsupplemental questionnaireweighted 50%.

Part II: An Appraisal ofPromotabilityto evaluate Knowledge and Skills, Problem Solving, Written andOral Communication Skills, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Supervision, weighted 50%.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higheron each weighted part ofthis examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.


The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY (12)TWELVE MONTHS.

SPECIAL INFORMATION :
Appointees may be required to workany shiftincluding evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
