POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The SeasonalSpecialist is responsible for painting, cleaning, and performing various manual labor jobs at the City's water or wastewater treatment facilities. This position may require operating City vehicles, machinery and hand or power tools and performs work of a physically demanding nature. This position works four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days during the week from May through September.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

  • Detect safety concerns during the daily operations of the water and wastewater system

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
1. Paints in designated facilities
2. Performs general custodial work in all areas of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and dusting
3. Moves and stock supplies throughout facility
3. Performs minor repair to facility fixtures
4. Performs basic preventative maintenance on pump and lift stations, including:
  • Greasing pumps
  • Cleaning and blowing filters
  • Painting and cleaning pump and lift stations
5. Operates light equipment such as pick-up trucks, air compressors, sewer rodders, and other equipment as required
6. Possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record
7. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required :
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Valid driver's license and maintenance of a safe driving record
Preferred :
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of hand and power tools
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
Work is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to:
  • Occasionally sit while driving to work assignments and performing office tasks; frequently stand and constantly walk on uneven terrain in all weather conditions to safely complete assigned tasks
  • Occasional squatting, twisting, climbing, and balancing to inspect assigned areas
  • Frequently crouch, squat, bend, twist, and kneel in awkward confined spaces; frequently climb equipment, trenches, and 45-foot ladders through 24-inch diameter manholes
  • Frequent light and firm grasp to properly use tools and equipment; occasional fine manipulation use to perform office duties; constant handling to safely use machinery and heavy equipment
  • Occasional step up and down to enter and exit vehicles and climb ladders up to 45 feet; constant actuate mechanism to safely operate heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Constant near and far acuity and hearing to safely perform duties
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds from ground to waist to move materials and supplies; constant carrying up to fifty (50) pounds at waist level up to twenty (20) feet to move materials and supplies to work areas

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is constantly performed indoors and outdoors with constant exposure to extreme temperatures.While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts and high-speed rotating equipment; work is performed in high and precarious places with exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, and/or airborne particles.
Required Materials and Equipment
Operates heavy and light equipment such as pick-up trucks, hand and power tools, gas detectors, air compressors, air blowers, tripods, vacuums, mops, floor machines, brooms, and cleaning materials and agents.Depending on the project, may also utilize small tools such as hammers, shovels, saws, measuring tape, levels, drills, and power tools to complete assigned responsibilities.
