Agricultural Enforcement Officers are field agents and inspectors (peace officers) of the Department of Agriculture, and as such, enforce all State agricultural laws and regulations. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position works within the Department of Agriculture and is located in Ely, NV. The incumbent is responsible for providing law enforcement of Interstate USDA and Nevada plant and animal health requirements; coordination with local enforcement; and protection of public health and safety Northeastern Nevada. Incumbent will conduct highway traffic stops on agricultural vehicles to verify documentation for transportation of livestock, nursery stock or plant material, as well as inspecting vehicles from quarantined states for actionable quarantine insects. The Agricultural Enforcement Officer 2 also provides support to program staff on regulatory activities involved in the Nevada Department of Agriculture noxious weeds, nursery and pest control licensing programs; carries out law enforcement duties for all livestock or animal related events or incidents, to include animal health inspection requirements as well as theft of livestock and animal cruelty. Additional duties include the monitoring of animals and agricultural products transported within or entering the state from other states and international locations which entails inspecting for zoonotic and non-endemic diseases that can pose significant public health and economic consequences. Travel up to 50% of the time may be required. **Please note that selected candidates will be subject to an extensive background investigation including a polygraph and physical examination.**
