Job Description

This recruitment is being established to obtain a current eligible list for Extra-Help vacancies. Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to 25 hours a week.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Participates in planning and operating various workforce development programs.
  • Contacts potential businesses to provide services and information, market programs, and develop job opportunities. Also to develop an understanding of their operation, services, products, and their needs.
  • Develops vocational assessment curriculum for Workforce Investment programs.
  • Administers and interprets assessment instruments.
  • Develops extensive individual employment plans and makes appropriate program placements.
  • Develops and maintains client caseloads.
  • Conducts orientation and vocational assessment employment preparation workshops.
  • May direct the work of subordinate staff.
  • May be responsible for grant application, planning, management, and activities reporting requirements.
  • Assists customers with job search to include application, resume, interview practice and tips.
  • Negotiates, writes, and monitors employer contracts.
  • Pre-screens applicants for referrals to businesses.
  • Counsels clients in job/life skills and attitudes and may monitor training/work experience sites.


Minimum Qualifications:
Employment Training Specialist I

Experience:
Two (2) years of counseling experience, preferably in the area of vocational counseling.

OR
Two (2) years working in private sector business in human resources/personnel management

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or university with course work inbusiness, economics, human resources, organizational development, career planning, guidance principles and techniques, personality development, occupational and industrial information, tests and measurements, or other related courses.

A two year AA or AS degree and two (2) years additional experience may substitute for graduation from a four (4) year college or university.

License:
Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.

Employment Training Specialist II

Experience:

One (1) year of counseling experience, comparable to an Employment Training Specialist I in Merced County, and two (2) years of counseling experience, preferably in the area of vocational counseling, or two (2) years working in private sector business in human resources/personnel management.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or university with course work in business, economics, human resources, organizational development, planning, guidance principles and techniques, personality development, occupational and industrial information, tests and measurements, or other related courses.

A two-year AA or AS degree and two (2) years additional experience may substitute for graduation from a four (4) year college or university.

License:
Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.

Certifications:
Completion of a recognized National Workforce Professional Certification.
