Notes to Applicants
Process Engineer Overview
Process Engineers serve as a technical resource to the operations staff of Austin Water's water, wastewater, and biosolids managements plants. They spend much of their time in a plant setting, working closely with plant operations staff monitoring the process for regulatory compliance and evaluating chemical and electrical efficiency. They review performance data to identify process problems, opportunities for optimization, and work with plant staff to develop solutions. In diagnosing performance problems, Process Engineers may develop and perform studies, collect samples, run control tests, or coordinate analyses by the AW laboratories. Together with plant staff, they prepare regulatory reports and review them for accuracy. Process Engineers are called upon to make technical presentations to a variety of audiences as part of training for plant staff, plant tours for the public or representing the utility at commission and council meetings. Process Engineers are involved in design and construction projects, providing critical review to ensure that the projects will improve the function and operation of the facility.
