Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair all City owned equipment and fleet vehicles.This is accomplished by performing preventive maintenance and repairing equipment. Other duties include completing administrative duties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs preventive maintenance functions by replacing brake pads; changing the oil; changing out alternators; changing batteries; replacing tires; performing tune ups; and replacing hoses, filters and nozzles.
  • Repairs equipment by replacing transmissions; performing welding on vehicles; rebuilding engines; repairing electrical systems; replacing radiators; replacing hydraulic cylinders; and installing equipment.
  • Completes administrative functions by maintaining the cleanliness of the shop; driving vehicles to other locations; completing records, and processing documents


Minimum Qualifications

  • Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
  • Over two years up to and including four years.
  • Valid Texas class C driver's license required;Texas class B CDL preferred;
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred
  • Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
  • Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
  • Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses.Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
